When you're asked for 2 MB
- Online government and public-service portals, for each attached document.
- Job applications and civil-service exams, where supporting documents are uploaded separately.
- Complaint and application forms that accept scanned proofs.
What quality to expect at 2 MB
2 MB is roomy: most official documents keep a high resolution and the result is indistinguishable from the original to the naked eye. Only PDFs with lots of photos force a visible drop in quality.
If your file is already under 2 MB, we give it back untouched: there's no point recompressing something that already fits. And if the target turns out to be impossible, you get the lightest version we could achieve, with a clear notice of the final size.
Common questions about this size
Is 2 MB 2,000,000 bytes or 2,097,152?
Here 1 MB equals 1,024 KB, that is 1,048,576 bytes, which is the convention operating systems use when showing a file's size. Some forms use the other one (1,000,000 bytes), which is stricter. If your file lands right on the limit and still gets rejected, lower the target to 1.9 MB and you'll be safe.
Can I compress several documents to the same limit?
Yes. Drop all the files at once, set 2 MB once and they're compressed in a queue, one after another. When it's done you can download them all at once: they arrive separately, with their original name and the suffix “-compressed”, ready to attach one by one.
